The Red Eyed Idiot

Who hath woe?
who hath sorrow?
who hath contentions?
who hath babbling?
who hath wounds without cause?
who hath redness of eyes?
They that tarry long at the wine;
they that go to seek mixed wine.
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red,
when it giveth his colour in the cup,
when it moveth itself aright.
At the last it biteth like a serpent,
and stingeth like an adder.
Thine eyes shall behold strange women,
and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea,
or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
They have stricken me,
shalt thou say,
and I was not sick;
they have beaten me,
and I felt it not:
when shall I awake?
I will seek it yet again.
–Proverbs 23:29-35
A laughable idiot, babbling and stumbling over his own two legs. . .

He can’t think hard enough to act correctly. Through the years he has drunk but it’s never caught up with him. He’s a healthy man and doesn’t even have a beer belly. He considers that he can hold his liquor well.
A man of respect with a strong mind and incredibly dependable. His talents are admirable. Give him a problem and he will take care of it. His company has trusted him through the years.
He lives in two worlds always confident to balance the two, keeping them separate. But someday as the years pass and oldness begins to settle in, these worlds could easily collide.
In the old and poetic voice of the King James Version Bible, there was a warning to such people. I like it when I find such relevancy to things that happen in modern day. It gives me more respect for the Bible. Even back then, certain individuals had difficulties in handling strong drink.
