Samuel Johnson’s Weakness

Today when I read Our Daily Bread, I learned about a man who lived in the eighteenth century who kept a journal. Just like most people today, he would make a resolution to do better and then falter and not follow through:
“Here is a typical entry: ‘I have corrected no external habits, nor kept any of the resolutions made in the beginning of the year, yet I hope still to be reformed, and not to lose my whole life in idle purposes.'”
I agree with Mr. Johnson.

I truly want to be more disciplined and not lose my years to idle purposes. Here are things that are not idle purposes to me personally~
1. Prayer and reading the Bible
2. Educating my children very well. Teaching them book knowledge that they can practically apply to real life. I want to prepare them to be successful, interesting and caring adults who are well-prepared for family life.
3. Living a life of self-discipline.
4. Encourage and help my husband succeed. Giving to and loving others through my attitude and actions.
5. Engulf and saturate my life with literature and writing. This is one of the top desires of my life. This is my calling in life. πŸ™‚ I also love to teach young people. I love words and classic writings that are just as entertaining to me today as when they were written in many years past. I love thinking through detailed thoughts and putting them into writing.
Here are idle purposes I want to avoid:
1. Watching too much TV
2. Sleeping too much
3. Not taking care of my body through good exercise habits and healthy eating
4. Carelessly complaining, whining, being sarcastic and keeping a bad attitude
