Today In History– Literature

I have taken on a new hobby at my older age. I want to learn the literary as I teach it to my children and instill in them a taste for the finer things in life and a passion and excitement for knowledge of all the best and most interesting kinds! I want them to know the aesthetic beauty of the finer things in life.

To help me gain facts about literature I am rereading an old textbook from high school that will walk me through the history of American writings and then search the web for interesting sites. I am also reading the most popular short stories (about one a week) to my children. My husband has encouraged me in reading the novel Pride and Prejudice. (There are about 100 famous books/novels I need to read!) And we are planning to read aloud the sci-fi novel The Inferno By Niven/Pournelle. (This book is a modern parallel to Dante’ Inferno.) This morning I discovered there are sites that tell of this day in history related to literary history.
Here are some sites about that talk about this day in history:
Salon.com
The Writer’s Almanac –Taken from the North Texas Department of History which has a smorgasboard of “Today In History”
