Tulsa Area Parks

Lately we’ve been exploring parks around the Tulsa area. Today my husband and I went to a park that used to be a popular place. It’s Chandler Park.

When I was young there were even concerts there and people would sit on the grass during the performance. But now the area is old and somewhat run down. I know Chandler Park is near Turkey Mountain. I also once heard from one of my college instructors that there are ancient writings on some of the boulders in this area. I just don’t know where. I want to go back when I find out where.
I found a website called Tulsa Walk that highlights our area parks. Surprisingly Chandler Park was not on the list. But I found others for us to explore. I also found out interesting facts about Tulsa. The city has hundreds of acres designated for parks. The parks are varied in sizes from a mini-park of less than an acre to Mohawk Park which has 1665 acres! (Mohawk Park is located near the zoo.) Large Tulsa companies such as Williams, QuikTrip, Hilti and Boeing have their own park named after them. Some parks have the minimum of picnic tables and trees while others have a sportsplex, workout gyms, swimming pools and may even hold community programs and events. There is Veteran’s Park which is near a memorial to veterans of foreign wars in Broken Arrow. I chose a few parks that are large, scenic and have a nice walking trail for Danny and I to visit soon.
