Yesterday’s Grief by K. L. Bates

I’ve been thinking this lately, going through a hardship for God always pays off. The hardship may be long and demanding of patience but in the end, fulfilling rewards await. And I’ve just got to trust in God that even in this life we will be rewarded, before we get to Heaven.
This is a poem by Katherine Lee Bates*. It talk of facing grief and despair. It offers hope for tomorrow and that struggles in life are there to strengthen.

Sunrise of 11.09.07

As the sky began to lighten today, I noticed a fog. There is a layer of it in the distance in the field near the road. These low lying clouds fog have a peaceful quiet presence.
The sun is coming. It’s brightness is just below the visible horizon. Today along its edge there is a dark gray layer and then above it a characteristic orange-yellow layer makes way and acknowledes to the awakening Oklahoma landscape that the blazing sun will soon appear and take command of our new day while we go about busy with so many activities.

Autumn Salad

I found this simple happy little recipe on a simple happy little homeschooling website with a friendly creative name, Mud Pies and Mozart. (Mrs. H mentioned it.)
:: Autumn Salad ::
1 nice ripe pear, or crisp tart apple halved and sliced (leave peels on for pretty color)
5-6 handfuls of lettuce or baby spinach (whatever you like)
small handful walnuts, roughly chopped
2-3 T. Roquefort cheese, crumbled

The Bible, God’s Knowledge and Jesus

Mark my words, the truths of God found in the Bible are real:
Hebrews 4:
12For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way,
just as we are—yet was without sin.
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Cremation of Sam McGee

. . . Love this poem, an interesting and famous one by Robert Service. My dad would have thoroughly enjoyed it as the story unfolds and then ends differently than expected!
Cremation of Sam McGee
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

Cast Your Cares On God

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. . . that’s what the Bible says to do in 1 Peter 5:7.
To Thee I bring my care,
The care I cannot flee;
Thou wilt not only share,
But bear it all for me.
O loving Saviour, now to Thee
I bring the load that wearies me.

Got a problem you can’t solve? Things that have happened that bother you but you don’t know how to get away from them. Give it to God. Jesus said all power is given unto Him in Heaven and earth.
