Sometimes my children fight like cats and dogs. A while back, I used to regularly listen to a good 15 minute radio program. It was called "Gateway to Joy" with the host, a very godly older woman named Elizabeth Elliot. I learned bunches from her radio program and was sad when she decided to stop doing the program. She once said when you pray you should pray Bible verses. How much closer can you get to praying God's will than that!?
The other day I heard a Bible passage read that interested me. It was from I Peter 3:8-12. Basically, it was about being nice to others. I liked it so much I'm gonna do an experiment that will be fun to see the final results. I'm gonna pray that passage for my four squabbling children. And you know what else? I'll pray it right in front of them too so hopefully I can slowly brainwash them into doing the right thing. I'll keep prayin' and just wait and watch and let God show me what He can do:)
Here's the passage in the New Living Translation version:
Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.
Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.
For the Scriptures say, "If you want a happy life and good days, keep your tongue from speaking evil, and keep your lips from telling lies.
Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living in peace with others.
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil."
