Jim Croce

This blog is dedicated to my (favorite, shhhhhhh) brother, Perry.
Ever hear of Jim Croce? He was a popular singer in the ’70’s who’s career was cut short when he died in a plane crash. I found some of his songs in video. I hope you find them interesting and maybe they might even bring back a memory or two. Here’s a video on his life:

This one is called Time In A Bottle. It’s a home movie of Jim and his wife and small son:

Here’s my favorite, I Have To Say I Love You:

Here’s a studio version of I’ve Got A Name .
The song I’ve heard most on the radio was Operator. The song dates itself when he talks about how the telephone operator could keep the dime that it cost to make his call from a pay phone. This video was taken from a program that used to come on late at night. It was called Midnight Special. I used to watch it because my brother liked it.

My big brother had a 33 Lp album of Croce. I don’t remember the name of the album but I remember I used to sit on the bed and stare at it. There was a simple picture of him on the front. The album also had all the words to the songs. I used them sing along with the record. One summer my cousins came from Texas and spent a couple of weeks with us. There were several girls in my mom’s sister’s family. When they came they would clean our house. When they cleaned my brother’s room we would listen to the Croce album.
This one is Don’t Mess Around With Jim:

One of my favorite variety shows was Sonny and Cher. I always liked to see what Cher would wear. I liked to listen to her sing. And I liked at the end of the show when Sonny and Cher would say goodbye to the audience and Sonny would hold his daughter Chastity. Once on the show they made a cartoon of Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, made famous by Croce. This one is funny.

The Sonny and Cher cartoon is cute but you just need to hear the real good original version:
