The time is 5:07 am. I just had some family fun with three of my sisters, two of my brothers, two nephews and my mom. Mom and her cousin, Jan, went on a bus trip to Ohio to go to a funeral. (Mom lives in Boise City, Oklahoma.) Friday was my mother's birthday. She turned 67. It was my youngest sister Deena who had the idea to get together. On Mom's bus trip home she would stop in Tulsa. So all of us went to the Greyhound bus station in Downtown Tulsa and waited.
Four of my siblings met at Nancy's house. Richard drove her minivan. Deena and Sharon went with them. Since they were running late Richard sped. He was driving about eighty and a police pulled them over. When this happened Nancy got worried because she didn't have her insurance verification card and her tag had expired. Surprisingly, the police officer just gave Richard a verbal warning and didn't mention anything about the other two discrepencies! Then they came to get me. I took my own car and followed them to a gas station. Richard went to the QuikTrip gas station near 169 and Pine street. Something interesting happened there. As Richard filled the gas tank he noticed the pump was acting strange. The dollar counter would skip. The tank was filled with an amount of $20. This was about $20 less than the amount it usually cost. So Richard bought Cappucinno for everyone and then he did the honest thing and told the cash register attendant the gas pump he used wasn't working right.
We got to the bus station at about 4am. My brother Kelly and his sons Alex and Reese arrived about 10 minutes later. Mom and Jan arrived about 10 minutes later than that. Deena and I had put together some snacks. I brought some homemade wheat rolls, honey, egg salad, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and ranch dip. Deena brought cheese cubes, pineapple, strawberries and grapes and two bottles of green tea. But Nancy brought the best, she made chocolate iced cup cakes. She put them in a Tupperware container and spelled out the words "Happy birthday Mom" with red hots.
We surprised Mom. She didn't expect to see six of her children. We went and stood inside the bus station and made a circle as Nancy held out her cupcakes we sang happy birthday to Mom. I could tell Mom loved this by the huge smile on her face.
It wasn't long until Mom and Jan had to get back on their bus. We probably spent about 15 minutes with Mom. Richard took a couple of pictures of everyone together and then Jan and Mom got on the bus. I asked Mom if she expected anyone to come to the bus station. Mom thought Deena might be there and may be one or two others but she definitely didn't expect six of us to be there. It was fun for all of us and Mom kept waving at us after she got on the bus to leave.
