The Cheesy Burger King Guy

What happened to Burger King? Are they on a massive campaigne to sell cheese. That's what it appears like to me. The plastic faced Burger King guy is starting to get on my nerves. He's getting on my husband's nerves too.

Mom's Birthday Surprise

The time is 5:07 am. I just had some family fun with three of my sisters, two of my brothers, two nephews and my mom. Mom and her cousin, Jan, went on a bus trip to Ohio to go to a funeral. (Mom lives in Boise City, Oklahoma.) Friday was my mother's birthday. She turned 67. It was my youngest sister Deena who had the idea to get together. On Mom's bus trip home she would stop in Tulsa. So all of us went to the Greyhound bus station in Downtown Tulsa and waited.

A Purple Cow and A Yellow Rose

I remember vividly, although thirty years ago, reading poems in library class at Jane Addams Elementary in Oakhurst, Oklahoma. My friend, Tara Bunganich, and I would come in from an active recess and take turns reading them together. The best days to read would be on bright Spring days. The cheerful words of a poem could help describe the happy feelings such a pretty day would bring. I recently figured out my favorite poems from my childhood. The five of them were written by poets such as Christina Rosetti, Gelett Burgess, Polly Chase Boyden, Vachel Lindsey and Elisabeth M. Roberts. They were simple and about animals and nature. I enjoyed them so much, I memorized them all with little effort:

Amazing Stories of the Bible

As a New Year's Resolution did you consider reading the Bible through but haven't started yet? I have a suggestion: Why not read all the most famous stories in it this year? You still have ample time to do it and it will give a good overview of the Bible. I'm gonna do this with my children.

Here's the list:

Amazing Stories of the Bible (Cont'd)

I hope you join me this year in reading all 110 of the great and interesting stories of the Bible. (I really mean it!) You would have no regret in doing so. I read the 4 Gospels to my children last year and now they're ready for a change. Oh yeah, one more important detail, don't forget to say a quick prayer before you read a story, ask God to help you learn what you need to know from it. If you read them, may the words truly come to life for you and even change you in amazing ways! :)

Here's the list:

Wilma

Today, February 21st of 2006, I attended a funeral of a family friend. Her name was Wilma. I met her when I was 11 years old (28 years ago). Wilma and Ellis, her husband were married for several decades. Her disciplined steadfast ordinary Christian life has encouraged me. I hadn't realized how much her life influenced me until I heard she had died.

To Everything there is a Season

Deena, can you play this song on your guitar?

A good song is impactful and can even change your mood. I enjoy listening to an upbeat rock and roll song. But as a Christian I've had this major dilemma almost all my life. That is, there are only a tiny amount of rock and roll songs that honor God. Most of them are about what the world considers "love" between two people. I guess there is hardly any room for honoring God when as the music maker, most party, take drugs, overindulge in drinking and promiscuity.

I have found one song. It's by the Byrds and is taken from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. The Bible passage was written by King Solomon, a man to whom God blessed with an incredible amount of wisdom over two thousand years ago. Please read the amazing passage about how young Solomon got his wisdom, I Kings 3:5-15, 2 Chronicles 1:7-12! (Dare I, as a mother, pray that my children have such astounding wisdom?) I love to read that because Solomon was humbly asking for God's help. And God overwhelmingly came to his assistance.

Uh, oh yeah, back to the Byrd's song:

Chorus: To everything (Turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (Turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose under Heaven
