I substitute taught in a middle school English class last Friday. The fifth hour class was considered an extra unruly group. So I started the class by speaking with a loud firm (no smile) voice. I remembered what my husband said. He told me to think of the entire class as a group filled with the ornriest kids I would ever meet and their intentions were to take advantage of me.

I heard those words in a debut video on CMT this past Saturday. It was the first time I had heard a new song by Martina McBride. When she sings, she sings with passion. She can pour out her soul through her excellent voice while singing at the top of her lungs. My husband and I have a CD in which she sings How Great Thou Art.
Martina debuted the song at the CMA Awards ceremony in 2006. I found the video and I have watched it more than once to study her techniques as she gives the song her very best while we hear it for the first time.

Beatles and Love Me Do

Did you know Paul McCartney skipped school when he was 16 years old and wrote the song, Love Me Do.”? This was the Beatles first big hit. When the song was released in America Ringo Starr was not the drummer on the record, another guy named Andy White played instead. Ringo played in the English version. Here’s an old black and white clip of them singing it.

Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds

To everything . . . turn, turn, turn. . . words to a popular song sung by The Byrds in the ’60’s. The words were derived from the poetic book of Ecclesiasties in the Bible (3:1). King Solomon, the son of King David of Israel wrote the original.
I had the privilege of finding this great song in an old clip from 1966. I guess you could say the video is of some byrds sitting on horses (ha.)
