New Resolution Update

My son Benjamin and I made New Year’s Resolutions. How have we done? Not too bad.
Benjamin made a resolution to give me a hug everyday. I’m proud and happy to say he has kept his promise. Once or twice he forgot but gave me an extra big one when he remembered.
I made the resolution to read the New Testament to my children. I even told my son’s Sunday School class. And I am following through. 🙂

I’m behind but am on the last book of the four Gospels. That’s okay. Since I don’t work as much now I’m not so tired at the end of the day and I read every night. I am also reading through the Old Testament stories from a paperback. They are written in two or three minute stories. I usually read two a night. I’m ahead in the OT stories.
By the time this year is completed I am confident my children will have a strong knowledge of what’s in the Bible. They will be familiar with even the obscure people in it’s pages. Yes! Yes!! Yessssssss!!!!
The books we are using keep me well organized and right on track. They are both paperbacks that I bought from Mardel. To read through the New Testament I am using the One Year Bible (New Living Translation, so they will understand the words better as I read aloud. I prefer to memorize in King James Version.) And when I read from the Old Testament I use a Bible story book called The Bibles Greatest Stories In a Year. There are 365 quickly readable stories in this book. And many times the stories will contain historical details which will help piece together the timeline history of the Bible. I bought it for $1.99!
One of the foundations of homeschooling our children is that we want them to know the Bible. And I have the exciting privilege and established discipline of doing this with them.
The Lifeway Christian Stores site has several one year Bibles. This one is different than the one I’m reading but if I had opportunity to buy a new one I would like to buy a New King James Version. There is a book called Bedtime Bible Story Book that is the children’s version of the one I’m reading. Mine just doesn’t have pictures.
Before I would buy these books brand new I would go to Half.com. I found the specific one year Bible that I read at this site for 75 cents! (2 to 3 dollars s & h) The best price I found for the Bible stories book was $1.98.
