Starry Starry Night

I would like to dedicate this entry to Mrs. Happy Housewife. I love it when she takes a famous poem and couples it with a masterpiece.
In college one of my most memorable classes was humanities. The teacher was good and I learned world history that I hadn’t been exposed to yet.
In that class, my teacher Mrs. Lurz, took an old hit song from the ’70’s and told how it was about a famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. The song is Starry, Starry Night by Don Mclean. The beauty and expression of two incredibly talented people combined so we could enjoy.

What a way to memorize the Masterpieces of Van Gogh; Listening to a peaceful song beautifully sang as a guitar is strummed.
Through YouTube, Don Mclean’s song, and through the artist’s own hand the world will listen now, much more than ever, to what Van Gogh tried to say through his paintings.

  1. Thank you for posting this video. My son (9) and I enjoyed watching it just now. S recognized Don Mclean’s voice from his other famous song (which is a family favorite), “American Pie”.
Van Gogh was a remarkable man – at one point he was even a missionary and gave away all he had to his poor neighbors – and it is such a shame that he took his life. Most people prefer his Sunflowers, Irises, or Starry Night but my favorite Van Gogh is First Steps.
Thank you also, Linda, for frequently referencing my blog. You always say such sweet things.
    Blessings,

  2. Rebecca,
There is a famous writer of children’s poems from the mid-1700’s named Ann Taylor who wrote a famous poem called My Mother. (Thomas Jefferson handwrote out this poem.) and then Mary Cassatt of course is famous for her sweet pictures of children. I think the two together would make a lovely combination. What do you think?
