Fight the Victim Mentality

My brother has been trying to get a hold of me for a few days. I didn’t want to talk to him because I’m embarrassed from the ridiculous lie that has gotten me fired and labeled me by the company as one who had gross misconduct.
Finally, he got ahold of me. I was annoyed and told him I just wanted to be around my family right now. Then he told of something that happened to him.

He was a member of a church for 13 years. The pastor appreciated him and would say how much he had done to help the church grow. One time my brother and the pastor had met together for lunch. My brother has an interesting talent to invent things. He has been trying to get some of these inventions patented and then manufactured. He trusted the pastor and told him about a simple invention of a cell phone clip. The pastor listened. Since the pastor had access to a machine shop my brother was hoping that they might make a partnership to get the phone clips into the market. The pastor didn’t respond.
The next time my brother saw the pastor he was stand-offish and was wearing my brother’s invention. He had taken my brother’s idea and started making them. He had stolen my brother’s idea!! His pastor!!
My brother decided he was just going to not saying anything and try to forget about it. He had a victim mentality. He knew he had been wronged.
A couple of years later after it had bothered him all that time he finally called a lawyer and asked them about the situation. The lawyer told him that he could have applied within a year after the incident for a patent and could have gotten it thus forcing the pastor to give up the right to produce them.
During our phone call my brother stressed to me to not have a victim mentality in which I start feeling sorry for myself because I was blatantly wronged and give up on fighting for right. He said if he hadn’t gotten discouraged and given up and would have sought a patent, his life would be different today.

  1. Your brother is right about at least a couple things. You have been wronged, and you should not back down. You are woman, make them hear you ROAR! Not just that, but what lesson will children learn if Mommy does not stand up for what is right? Who else will do it for you?
Speaking of which, I have written an article on your behalf. πŸ™‚

If you think I’ll sit around as the world goes by
You’re thinkin’ like a fool cause it’s a case of do or die
Out there is a fortune waitin’ to be had
You think I’ll let it go you’re mad
    You’ve got another thing comin’
